Der Mond by Claudio Panariello for clarinet and piano
A new piece by the Italian composer, this piece is extremely technically challenging - this is one for the most advanced players. Rich mournful harmonies begin the piece, with a simple clarinet tune over the top. The harmonies deepend, and the clarinet part becomes more and more florid, extending it's range through the entire range of the instrument (top G# is not uncommon), whilst the piano part also becomes more and more virtuosic. Frequent cross rhythms combined with the extreme range and speed of the piece make for a piece that sounds like no other.
