Composed in 2002, this impressive two-movement suite was written for the Brazilian bassist and teacher, Valeria Guimaraes, and is full of Brazilian character, influence and atmosphere. Aria is rhapsodic and lyrical followed by Choros Brasileros which is strongly rhythmic and full of forward momentum. It uses the entire range of the double bass, combining musical and technical challenges in equal measure, and is a good addition to the advanced solo repertoire. Typical of the rhythmic invention of Tony Osborne's music, there is much here to enjoy and explore. The edition includes piano accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tunings.
