Written in memory of Frantisek Posta and 'the Singing Double Bass', this short lyrical contemporary solo explores beautiful soundworlds, but still within a recognisably tonal idiom. The music is heartfelt and sincere with a bleakness of texture, enabling the bassist to demonstrate more than simply technique.
Pieni Elegia (A Little Elegy) is evocative, ethereal and impressive, and is always successful in performance. Pizzicato and arco techniques are contrasted but sul ponticello and harmonic chord effects, but a modern lyricism is the overriding quality.
This edition includes piano accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tuning. Teppo Hauta-aho is the most prolific composer of double bass music ever and has written works for every level of performer - complete beginner to virtuoso - and his music is performed by leading players around the world. Many of his works are now included for grade exams.
