Plaisir d'Amour is probably G.B. Martini's most famous song, although there is some speculation that it is wrongly attributed to this leading 18th-century Italian composer. It has been arranged for every instrument and probably every instrumental combination, and was even the basis for an Elvis Presley song.
This new edition returns to the 1850s orchestration of the song by Hector Berlioz and presents two versions of the solo part for double bass - one a simple presentation of the melody and the second with double stops in the middle section for the more adventurous bassist. The accompaniment is simple and effective, with its gently rocking arpeggio figurations and more expressive links between verses, and accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tuning are included.
