Kuchynka: Concert Waltz Op 28

Czech bassist-composer Vojta Kuchynka (1871-1942) wrote many works for double bass, displaying the various facets of the solo instrument but always keeping Czech lyricism and folk idioms to the fore. A composition student of Dvorak, Kuchynka writes in a traditional and accessible style combining melodic interest with technical bravura and most of his works remain in manuscript. Recital Music are planning to publish a number of these pieces as part of their ongoing 'Heritage Series'.

This is a charming and virtuosic concert waltz dating from the 1920s. It utilises the entire range of the double bass and has real character and a joie de vivre. Unpublished until this edition, the style is typically Czech with just a hint of Viennese magic. The opening waltz melody is reminiscent of the music of Johann Strauss II and this work was performed many times by the composer.

This edition includes piano accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tunings.
