Jenkins: Ballad for Bass

 Composed for Double Bass 2000 and premiered at Wells Cathedral School, Ballad is a short and lyrical solo for the intermediate bassist. Employing arco and simple col legno effects, it concentrates on the melodic aspects of the double bass within the lower orchestral register. This is an interesting and effective work composed in a basically tonal and approachable style, with an inventive, independent and supportive piano accompaniment. Ideal for a school concert or exam. Grade 6 standard.
