Barbe: Occi-Mental

Written in a modern French style, Occi-mental is lively and full of character obviously influenced by the lyrical soundworld of the impressionists, alongside the rhythmic invention of Prokofiev, Poulenc and Stravinsky.

It utilises the entire range of the double bass with a strongly confident and strident accompaniment. This is the third piece of a three movement suite (Ni-Car is the second piece). The edition is published with piano accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tuning.
